Be Heard – Making Statements with Style

If you have a voice, then why not use it to empower others? The best way I know how is through fashion, using style statements as a way to send a message. Theory recently launched Be Heard, a women’s leadership series the celebrates entrepreneurship, innovation, and change. Lucky to take part in one of the panels, I was inspired to continue using my passion to push my purpose, making a statement with style!

Much like the bold statement that I made with my Not My President shirt, as millennials we have the platforms to speak out against marginalizations, injustice and support fashion for a cause. Not only did this Be Heard shirt speak volumes and support my status as a black woman in America aiming to defy stereotypes, my sunglasses by DIFF Eyewear support those in need. Contemporary eyewear without the frills makes these affordable specs a no-brainer purchase, and for every pair you buy a child with optical issues receives much-needed help! I am rocking the Izzy glasses in pink for a summer fresh look. My vegan summer bag is from none other than Amazon.com, buy this for $22 and save on style. This Be Heard shirt is sold out however I’ve listed similar statement tee’s below!

Living by my recent realization that there must be at least one vintage piece in each outfit, I lucked up on a pair of vintage high waist denim that was none other than my mothers. Levi’s is a great outlet for similar pairs, ironically calling their option, Mom Jeans. What is a great pair of denim pants without a distressed jacket to match for those midnight chills? Grab this exact coat (you can size down) here and update your classic American look with a unique piece from The Dress Code Co!

Along with my efforts to shop more sustainably, shopping smarter in reference to what my clothes say about me is also a goal! Why not give smarter and make sure that the brands you support align with your lifestyle? I’ve put together a list of brands that sell fashionable statement shirts that you can dress down with a pair of jeans as shown or even dress up with a skirt. Find some inspo on how to wear a t-shirt with skirts on my Summer RTW Pinterest board!
