There are two closet essentials that need to be in every wardrobe and they are “basics” and “statement” pieces. When you have both it’s easy to create outfits. Mix & match pieces for multiple stylish looks, for the price of one. You can repeat this trick all year long, using an eye catching layer to glam up a basic heavy ensemble. Details on how to do this are below!
First you’ll need a simple white shirt which retail for as little as $5 and as much as $75, your choice. Next throw on a pair of distressed denim, a simple way to turn the every day jean into a fashion forward look. I actually created these jeans by altering denim that I cut up in 2016. You can watch my video tutorial here and just remember to construct bigger holes for these thigh out jeans. This trend retails for as much as $200 and cost me nothing to create and no time to make!
Lastly layer a statement coat over all these basic pieces. Winter is all about coats so why not “go big or go home” with outerwear that will start conversations. I scored this vintage fur jacket at a local consignment shop for less than $150. My orange trench is my mother’s and another classic gem. Both coats turn a standard white tee and destroyed jeans into a runway ready look. Now you have two ways to create outfits based around foundational items with a fashionable twist!
I am introducing a new feature where you can shop the look with pieces that are available online right now. Check it out below and share this article if you love it!
